Testing joints in car body construction – laser weld seams and resistance welding points
Auto 5000 GmbH – a 100% subsidiary of Volkswagen AG – manufacturers the Touran and Tiguan models. When it comes to laser welding in car body construction, Auto 5000 GmbH is one of the world's pioneers. This is also why Auto 5000 GmbH needed non-destructive testing for laser-welded car bodies.
Thermosensorik GmbH successfully commissioned the world's first robot-based non-destructive measuring system for the automatic testing of laser welding seams using heat flow thermography at Auto 5000 GmbH in 2004/2005. The system, which is directly integrated in production operations, has in the meantime been enhanced in many respects, the latest added the ability to test resistance weld points. Only recently a second system came online. The technology reduces inspection costs to a fraction and increases inspection speeds by a factor of 10.
